Q1: Which store did you visit and purchase your dress from? (Please describe your experience in a few words).

White Closet Studios, Liverpool - intimate, gorgeous setting and staff! loved the experience from start to finish. Was very stressed as had been told by many other shops I’d left my dress too late but Lucy saved the day and was calm and reassuring!!! Couldn’t have done enough for me 🙂

Q2: Which designer/style did you go for and what was the main reason for it being your winner?

Designer I chose was Charlie Brear. Reason I chose this one was because the dresses were like nothing I’ve ever seen anywhere else. I loved the simple but stylish, contemporary designs.

Charlie Brear Merenda

Q3 : Did you have any accessories from us and how did you feel in your outfit on the big day?

No accessories from yourselves. I felt a million dollars on my big day and the dress was so comfortable. It remains the main topic of conversation when I speak about the wedding to anyone! Everybody loved how unusual it was.

Charlie Brear Merenda

Q4 : Did you have bridesmaids? If so how many and what did they wear?

I had three bridesmaids- my sister (maid of honour), my sister in law and my niece. They wore nude/blush peachy pink vintage style lace dresses I found on an online site. Perfect for the wedding theme.

Q5 : Did you visit many other bridal shops before ordering your dress with us ?

Yes lots! None of them stocked dresses as amazing as White Closet Studios does... you really are unique

Charlie Brear Merenda

Q6 : What three bits of advice would you give any prospective bride?

1. ENJOY the planning process and make the most of the fuss of being the bride as it will only happen once...hopefully!!

2. Try to enjoy your day as it all becomes a blur...I wish I’d had a video made so I could watch it back.

3. Don’t sweat over the small stuff as it all falls into place in the end somehow

Q7 : Did everything go to plan on your big day? If so/not tell us how or why?

Yes everything went to plan on the day apart from a couple of guests not being able to make it after all for one reason or another.

Q8 : Any other thoughts ?

I think I enjoyed the build up to the wedding more than anything e.g. dress shopping, spa days....would do it all over again in a heartbeat 💍👰🏼

Rachael Grunes wearing Charlie Brear Harwood

Charlie Brear Harwood

Q1 - I visited the White Closet Studios, Liverpool with my mum and one of my bridesmaids and from the moment we walked in Lucy made me feel at ease. She completely understood the look I was going for and did everything she could to make this possible.

Charlie Brear Harwood

Q2 - After trying on a few dresses I tried on a Charlie Brear Harwood dress and fell in love. I had chosen it to try on with other layers but I also loved the simplicity of it on its own, which fitted in with my idea of having a separate top to create two different looks for the wedding day. I had always wanted a dress with sleeves which was the main reason I was struggling to find the perfect one. Lucy created a top out of what she had available in the studio and it was perfect for me to realise I was right to stick to what I had originally wanted. Unfortunately this wasn't something I could buy from the studio as it ended up being too far away from the original top I tried on. I had to go and have this made separately, but because of Lucy's dedication I knew this was the right choice.

Charlie Brear Harwood

Q3 - My dress ended up being perfect and I felt amazing on my wedding day. With the help of some amazing suppliers I managed to have the dress of my dreams.

Charlie Brear Harwood

Q4 - I had four bridesmaids who all have their own personal styles and I didn't want to force them into anything that would make them feel uncomfortable. I found that the best way to address this and to ensure they all had a amazing day too was to let them choose their own dresses. They wore various dresses from different stores with the loose brief of them having to be maxi and pinkish. They all chose really well and they worked perfectly together and created the look that I had envisaged.

Charlie Brear Harwood

Q5 - Yes as I live in London I visited The Mews Bridal in Notting Hill. I had spent a lot of time on Instagram and noticed most of the dresses I liked were from there so decided to make an appointment. Unfortunately nothing felt quite right.

Charlie Brear Harwood

Q6 -

  • Take a moment in the day to step aside just the two of you and reflect on what is going on around you. This was my favourite part of the whole day, enjoying having everyone you love and care about in the same place.
  • If something has gone wrong don't worry, no one else will know!
  • Inbetween courses we went around and spoke to everyone at the tables. It was a lovely way to make sure we spent some time with every single person.
Charlie Brear Harwood

Q7 - We were so lucky that everything went to plan on the day. We even had the one perfect day of Autumnal sunshine in the whole week!

Charlie Brear Harwood

Q8 - Enjoy the planning and lead up, we got to spend alot of time in Dorset in the run up to our wedding and it is so lovely to look back on.

Q1: Which store did you visit and purchase your dress from? (Please describe your experience in a few words).

White Closet Studios,Liverpool. Was made to feel so special! I wasn’t rushed and I don’t think I would have ever picked a dress if it wasn’t for lucy helping me!

Q2: Which designer/style did you go for and what was the main reason for it being your winner?

Charlie Brear. I loved the fact every bride looked different. You can basically build your own dress!

Q3 : Did you have any accessories from us and how did you feel in your outfit on the big day?

I had a belt in metallic pink - instead of the usual sash. Again lucy suggested and it was perfect! I felt amazing and he so many compliments on the dress! Even after I’ve had friends asking where I got it from!

Q4 : Did you have bridesmaids? If so how many and what did they wear?

I had 3 bridesmaids. They wore maid to measure dresses. Really complimented my style of dress.

Q5 : Did you visit many other bridal shops before ordering your dress with us ?

Yes 2 others. Both very different experiences.

Q6 : What three bits of advice would you give any prospective bride?

Stay calm - everything will be ok

Take advice and help from others- I wouldn’t have been able to create our day without help from family and friends

Enjoy the day - try to take time to be with your husband/wife after all the day is about you!

Q7 : Did everything go to plan on your big day? If so/not tell us how or why?

Yes I think so... if it didn’t I can’t remember so it can’t have been that bad! Haha

Helen Ankers wearing Jesus Peiro

Jesus Peiro

Q1: Which store did you visit and purchase your dress from? (Please describe your experience in a few words).

I visited both stores and tried it on at both as well - in the end I bought it from Liverpool.

Jesus Peiro - the dress I chose was the second dress I tried on and I knew straight away. To be honest, I'd know I wanted Jesus Peiro before I'd even visited the store. I loved the modern look and feel of the dress and the fact it wasn't too girly. It was simple, elegant, vintage inspired yet modern - plus it had pockets!

Jesus Peiro 6019

Q3 : Did you have any accessories from us and how did you feel in your outfit on the big day?

My accessories were from Silver Sixpence in Her Shoe - but it was a bespoke veil and hair accessories. I also wore a contemporary bangle from Wolf and Moon. I felt AMAZING on the big day, I think it's normal as a woman (unfortunately) to be overly self critical so I tend to pick up on the bits I don't like when looking through the photos now it's all over, but on the day I felt comfortable, confident and myself.

Jesus Peiro 6019

Q4 : Did you have bridesmaids? If so how many and what did they wear?

I had A LOT of bridesmaids - 6 adults, 2 teenagers and one flower girl. All the bridesmaids wore a vintage inspired 1950's style floral dress in pinks and purples that I found online and my flower girl wore a pretty party dress from h&m.

Q5 : Did you visit many other bridal shops before ordering your dress with us ?

I visited 4 other shops I think, but this was more for the experience than anything as I knew pretty quickly Jesus Peiro was the dress for me.

Jesus peiro 6019

Q6 : What three bits of advice would you give any prospective bride?

1. Don't let other people's opinions influence your own - it is your day, do it your way.

2. Choose a dress that makes you feel comfortable and confident - you might surprise yourself with the dress you choose, but go with it.

3. Be organised but enjoy every single minute and don't get stressed out by the little things because on the day you really won't care.

Jesus Peiro 6019

Q7 : Did everything go to plan on your big day? If so/not tell us how or why?

Yes everything went to plan - well the best man's suite turned up the day before and was the wrong size, but it didn't matter to us in the end as we had quite a relaxed approach to what the best man and ushers wore. Apart from that all of our guests seemed to have a good time, enjoyed the food, venue and music so we couldn't ask for more really.

Charlie Brear Payton and Voulaire

Q2: Which designer/style did you go for and what was the main reason for it being your winner?

Charlie Brear - simple, elegant, beautiful, not too fussy or 'meringue' like!

Q3 : Did you have any accessories from us and how did you feel in your outfit on the big day?

Yes!  I wore a belt in my hair!  I was wondering what to do with my hair and Lucy quickly styled out the perfect solution!

Charlie Brear Payton and Voulaire

I also ended up buying the same brand of shoe that I wore to try on my dress at the White Closet (with matching bag!), although I can't remember the name of the brand now!  Perhaps you can decipher from the photo, sorry!

Q4 : Did you have bridesmaids? If so how many and what did they wear?

Yes, 3 'big' bridesmaids (my sister & Gustaf's 2 sisters).  They were 'mix and match' and chose their own dresses in a shade of pale pink, knee length.  As they are all mature women and all very different it felt silly to force them to wear a 'traditional' bridesmaid dress.  They all looked beautiful!

I also had their children as page boys (2) &  bridesmaids (4) - 6 in total!  The girls wore simple white dresses from M&S, with pale pink bands and the boys looked very cute in little M&S 3-piece black suits.

Charlie Brear Payton and Voulaire

Q5 : Did you visit many other bridal shops before ordering your dress with us ?

Yes 2, also in Liverpool.  I can't remember their names but they were awful!! One had mouse traps on the floor!!

Q6 : What three bits of advice would you give any prospective bride?

Don't sweat the small stuff or get too carried away with minute details, delegate and enjoy your day!  Things that seem very important to you when planning a wedding really don't matter on the big day.

Charlie Brer Paytona dn Voulaire

Q7 : Did everything go to plan on your big day? If so/not tell us how or why?

It was a perfect day!  One small 'glitch' was when the photographer lost my wedding ring during the reception....

She took it to take a photo with my bouquet, then dropped it inside the bouquet and it vanished.  The bouquet was decimated as she frantically tried to find it along with a small group of staff and friends.  Fortunately I was blissfully unaware until she plucked up the courage to tell me 20 minutes later.  The toastmaster stopped the reception and all the wedding guests searched the room until it was found!  It was only a few minutes between her telling me and the ring being found - it had rolled off into the corner of a windowsill apparently.

We took it all in our stride and the day carried on as normal - we laugh about it now!  I don't think the photographer does though, she looked so upset and was shaking even after it was found, despite our reassurances that it was OK!

Q8 : Any other thoughts ?

Lucy was amazing!  Very professional and friendly, and she was able to read exactly what I wanted and what sort of style I would like to have with an air of calm and not too much fuss.  She made me & my family feel very welcome & we really enjoyed the whole experience.

white closet studios

Q6 : What three bits of advice would you give any prospective bride?

Don’t stress too much no matter what goes wrong on the day you really don’t mind.

Have the wedding videoed(one of my biggest regrets)

Forget traditions it’s whatever you want your wedding to be.

Q7 : Did everything go to plan on your big day? If so/not tell us how or why?

45 minutes late for church due to traffic resulting in a very wet walk to the church.

Q8 : Any other thoughts ?

It truly was the most wonderful day. I would do it all again in a heart beat including the planning.

Katie Prescot wearing Charlie Brear Torum and Isere Skirt

Kate and her bridesmaids on the roof top of OhMeOhMy wedding venue.

Me and my mum visited the White Closet Studios in Liverpool and were met by Lucy who immediately put me at ease. Dress shopping was not something I was particularly looking forward to as I had no idea what I wanted - all I knew was I didn’t want a “typical” wedding dress! The studio itself is beautiful and it is not overwhelming in any way, it’s so easy to see all the different dresses and designers. The best thing about the whole experience was Lucy. She was so patient, helpful and listened to my ideas and gave me suggestions and styling tips that I wouldn’t of thought of myself. I was able to come back on numerous occasions with aunties/bridesmaids for second opinions before picking my dress - perfect for someone so indecisive as myself!

In the end I chose Charlie Brear ‘Torum’ dress with the ‘Isere’ skirt. I had seen this on Pinterest and absolutely loved it but thought I wouldn’t be able to pull it off. I didn’t even pick it until the last minute - I asked to try on the skirt “just to see”! As soon as I put it on I felt so comfortable - the dress was so simple and neckline was perfect. The Isere skirt over the dress was amazing, I loved how much it moved and how different it was to everything I had tried on or seen on wedding blogs.

I had the Charlie Brear sash in blush which finished off the whole dress and skirt combination perfectly. On the day, as well as feeling amazing I felt so comfortable. Although the low back of the dress was gorgeous, I had the back of the dress altered slightly (finding a low back bra solution was a nightmare) but this meant I could wear “normal” underwear! None of it was restricting in anyway, I could eat and drink as much as I wanted and dancing was so much fun in the skirt!

I had four beautiful bridesmaids - Nikki, Katie, Rosie and Lucy. I had no colour scheme/theme and the four girls are so completely different I left it up to them and just annoyed them all with my suggestions! Nikki, Katie and Lucy all chose Maya dresses from ASOS and Rosie chose a Boohoo dress. The girls all made sure the colours complimented each other and chose their own shoes/accessories - they all looked amazing on the day.

The White Closet Studio was the only bridal shop I visited! Two of my bridesmaids had got their dresses from The White Closet in Didsbury so I had visited a few times already and loved it.

What three bits of advice would you give any prospective bride?

  1. You don’t have to stick to traditions. There were a few things we chose not to do such as cut the cake, be announced into the reception, get photos pretending to sign the register because personally, we didn’t see the point. Do what you want!
  2. Plan it together - I loved planning the day with Alex, we had such a laugh doing it and it meant that our wedding reflected us both.
  3. Don’t stress too much, easy to say I know!

Q7 : Did everything go to plan on your big day? If so/not tell us how or why?

There were a few blips in the day but nothing major and to be honest, we hardly noticed or cared we were having so much fun.

Reception venue - Oh Me Oh My in Liverpool. Holly was our wedding co-ordinator and she was so lovely and helped us so much in the lead up to the wedding day. https://ohmeohmyliverpool.co.uk

Photographer - Andy Hirst. He’s amazing and the nicest man ever - https://www.andyhirst.com

Florist - Ivy Pip & Rose. Rebecca is such a lovely person and created the most beautiful bouquets, button holes and hair piece with the only instructions from me asking for “messy, mainly green and nothing too girly”.  http://www.ivypipandrose.co.uk

Makeup - Daryll Quinn. Daryll had done my makeup previously so knew exactly what I liked and was also such a calming presence on the day. https://darrylquinn.co.uk

Hair - Phill Gallagher, Electric Hair. https://www.electric-hair.com/liverpool.html

Dress alterations - Boutique Alterations. Tusneem was so knowledgable and altered my dress and skirt perfectly. http://boutiquealterations.co.uk/about/

Lizi McKee

I purchased my dress from the Liverpool studio, with help from the lovely Lucy. My experience was perfect – firstly the studio is so beautiful, and I felt at ease there straight away – the ‘by appointment only’ service makes you feel special and not rushed in any way. The selection of dreamy dresses was plentiful and easy to browse without being overwhelmed by bulging rows of dresses I had seen in other bridal stores. What really made my experience however, was your bridal stylist Lucy – Lucy was friendly and full of excellent advice and styling tips, she made me feel completely comfortable on each visit and I personally felt that she just totally ‘got’ me and the look I wanted. I highly recommend the White Closet to any stylish brides to be!

I chose a  simple 70’s style Jesus Peiro dress. It was not at all what I thought I would go for however the beautiful fabric and floaty sleeves just caught my eye as I browsed the rails. As soon as I put it on I realised it was perfect for me – it completely suited my style and personality and most importantly I felt comfortable in it, I didn’t want to try any other dresses after that. All the scattered style ideas I had previously had became a clear vision once I had chosen this dress.

Screen Shot 2018-04-13 at 13.31.08.png

I also purchased a Helen Martin cathedral length tulle veil from you and a silk sash from your recommended seamstress, after months  of searching for the perfect belt the sash looked just right. On the day I felt beautiful in my dress and I was so comfortable, I danced the night away with no problems at all!

Screen Shot 2018-04-13 at 13.36.20.png

I had six gorgeous bridesmaids (six?! Yes I know, its a bit ridiculous!) they wore dove-grey full length dresses from ASOS with the most beautiful bright wildflower crowns from our lovely florist Angela Adlard.

Screen Shot 2018-04-13 at 13.28.25.png

I found my dress on our first and only shopping day, we visited two other shops before the White Closet.

3 pieces of advice from Lizi:

1.    Set a realistic budget at the start, then choose venue, dress, etc. around this budget so that you don’t fall in love with something you can’t have.
2.    Don’t be afraid to be different! Stamp your personalities on your day and make it a reflection of all the things you both love. The biggest compliment I got was that our wedding was “just so us”.
3.    Remember what it’s all about – marrying the other half of you and the start of your forever with them – keep this in your head and when things get a bit stressy, just remember all that actually matters on the day is that you two get married!

Screen Shot 2018-04-13 at 13.38.43.png

Any Hiccups on the day?

There were a few hiccups but nothing major, it all adds to it! A friend had handmade my garter and on the morning of the wedding my sister couldn’t find it anywhere, the bridesmaids secretly searched for it for hours before discovering I had left in in my house over half an hour away (oops). Luckily my husband was getting ready there and one of the groomsmen dropped it off just in time. I had another mishap when getting into my dress realising I had mistakenly sent the bag containing my bridal underwear to the hotel we would be staying in that night and had to wear a really ordinary pair of pants instead! We also ended up being over half an hour late for the church – which is unheard of for me, I hate lateness! But all is well that ends well and nothing ruined our day.

In terms of suppliers, I highly recommend our gorgeous photographer Sally T: http://www.sallytphoto.com/

Thanks to Sally our wedding was featured on the Love My Dress blog, which was very exciting!

Our florist was Angela Adlard, who created the most beautiful seasonal wildflower arrangements and flower crowns with little direction from me other than i wanted ‘colourful’ and ‘messy': http://www.angelaadlardfloristry.co.uk/
