Lauren wearing Jesus Peiro at her Italian dream wedding

Q1: Please could you describe your experience visiting our store?

I visited the Liverpool store twice before I ordered my dress, and was met by Lucy on both occasions. It was the first place I visited, and I can honestly say I felt so comfortable and not under pressure. I had a pretty clear vision of what I wanted, and Lucy just got it immediately. It was super relaxed, and just like having a chat with a friend.

Q2: Which designer/style did you go for and what was the main reason for it being your winner?

I went for Jesus Peiro, a designer that funnily enough I saw for the first time at a White Closet night time event at the Rose Garden in Didsbury, months before I actually started looking for my dress properly. I wanted a super dramatic silhouette, that was unfussy with really clean lines, and this designer seemed to meet every one of my requirements.

Q3: Did you have any accessories from us and how did you feel in your dress on your big day?

No accessories, but I felt incredible - so comfortable, and so stylish. I didn’t want to take it off!

Q4: Did you have bridesmaids? If so how many and what did they wear?

I had three bridesmaids, and they all wore cream jumpsuits from Lavish Alice. The jumpsuits were all slightly different designs and I have to give all the credit to one of my bridesmaids for finding all the outfits in a sample sale! They looked incredible though, on trend but really classic at the same time.

I didn’t really have any colour in the wedding because I wanted an almost monochrome look for the bridal party and groomsmen, and they all looked unbelievable. One of my bridesmaids came with me when I collected my dress, and Eve at White Closet Studios was happy to let her try all the jumpsuits on next to me in my dress so we could see how they looked, it was such a nice moment.

Q5: Did you visit many other bridal shops before ordering your dress with us?

No - this was my first! I went to one other afterwards, but my heart wasn’t in it because I’d already found my dress at White Closet Studios (and nothing compared to Jesus Peiro).

Q6: What advice would you give any prospective bride?

  1. The best bit of advice I would give was from my wedding planner on the morning of my wedding (shout out to Chiara at Avenue Cipresso) which was that it’s normal to be stressed or nervous, it’s ok, and not to fight it because you’ll make yourself feel worse when you can’t!

  2. Secondly make sure you spend a good half an hour or so with your husband on the day, away from all your guests, it’s really important to let it all sink in together and I think it was the best bit of my day.

  3. Finally - just make sure when you’re trying it on that your dress is comfortable! Mine was so comfy I was fine all day, sitting or standing, but I’ve heard horror stories about people wanting to take them off after a few hours of sitting down for the meal.

Q7: Did everything go to plan on your big day? If so/not tell us how or why?

It did and it didn’t - the biggest upset was that we were supposed to have the meal outside, but (uncharacteristically for Italy) it rained, so everything moved inside. Thankfully we had an exceptional planner who coordinated everything beautifully, so we really had no stress at all on the day, and if anything the move made for a better atmosphere and much better pictures!

Q8: Recommended supplier list:

I’d love to credit our planner - Chiara at Avenue Cipresso and our photographers - Grace Elizabeth Photo and Film, they were both incredibly professional and understood the exact look we wanted. Also I went to Tusneem at Boutique Alterations and she was so kind and just amazing at her job!

Others I would recommend to those getting married in Italy are our incredible caterers, Apollinare Catering as well as our florist Roberto Fiori, and the amazing bands, The Wedders and Blue Moon Jazz Trio. They were all super professional and made the day so perfect.

Joanna wearing Halfpenny London Iris Rose

Q1: Which store did you visit and purchase your dress from?

Liverpool, from the moment we all walked in and met Lucy and saw the dresses I think we knew I was going to find my dress.

JoandEd-635.jpg

Q2: Which designer/style did you go for and what was the main reason for it being your winner?

Halfpenny…but it was such a difficult decision because I loved a Charlie Brear top and skirt and initially thought this was the ONE! Both Halfpenny and CB dresses were so pretty, delicate, vintage-esq and felt amazing when I tried them on. Both designer’s dresses made me feel like me!

After coming back for a trunk show and to try on the Charlie top and skirt again I spied the Halfpenny Iris Rose dress that was in store for another bride. The train on the Iris Rose is incredible and I totally fell in LOVE with the dress.

Q3: Did you have any accessories from us and how did you feel in your outfit on the big day?

I always knew I wanted a really long, double tiered veil (maybe because I love wearing hats and feel safe in a hat!?). For a while I contemplated a veil to match the shape of the Halfpenny train and edged in the same lace but eventually decided on a Helen Martin lace edged veil, and during my fittings had the length altered so it was about a foot longer than the dress

On the day I felt INCREDIBLE in my dress, super comfy, and didn’t want to take it off.

Q4: Did you have bridesmaids? If so how many and what did they wear?

I had two adult bridesmaids, my sister Emily and friend Lizzie. The girls wore dresses made from Liberty fabric, my sister’s friend made the dresses. I always wanted my bridesmaids to wear floral dresses and have dresses they would hopefully wear again.

I had 3 little flower girls, who wore dresses from Matalan and 3 page boys who wore John Lewis trousers (made into shorts), waistcoats and bow ties.

Q5: Did you visit many other bridal shops before ordering your dress with us?

4 other dress shops, 2 being vintage shops because I normally wear a lot of vintage clothes.

Q6: What advice would you give any prospective bride?

  1. Go with an open mind and try on as many styles as possible – it’s really fun and you never know what might suit.

  2. Make sure you feel true to yourself and comfy, lots of our guests commented that my dress was very ‘me’ but felt soooo incredibly special.

JoandEd-622.jpg

Q7: Did everything go to plan on your big day? If so/not tell us how or why?

I couldn’t find my pants in the morning but was so super relaxed it didn’t matter. I was very relaxed which meant I was a little late for the church – fashionably late.

Q8: Any other thoughts ?

Think about underwear when trying on dresses. My dress is kind of backless and I have big boobs so finding a good bra was tricky but the ladies at Betty and Belle in Altrincham were great.

I had my dress altered and the ladies at Boutique Alterations were amazing and made sure my bra, dress and veil all looked perfect.

Try on everything before the day, shoes and underwear to make sure you feel comfy.

White Closet Studios welcomes Eliza Jane Howell

For some time, we have felt that there was something missing from our collection. We however still wanted to remain true to our vision of offering brides something different from the norm.

So in September we visited the Harrogate Bridal Show looking for something unusual that would complement our current designers and my oh my have we found it!

We had previously admired the stunning photo-shoots which Eliza Jane Howell had posted on Instagram, but these were nothing in comparison to seeing their gowns up close. They literally took our breath away! Our love for the luxe brand was instantaneous and there was no way we were not bringing them back to Liverpool with us.

Designed by the renowned Gill Harvey, and named after her fashion designer grandmother, each vintage inspired hand-beaded wedding dress is individually made using traditional and contemporary methods.

Eliza Jane Howell are the perfect choice for the bride who wants to look like she has stepped out of another era.

Every single dress is truly exquisite which made it extremely difficult to choose our favourites, but after much deliberation we finally decided on 6 gowns which will be arriving in January 2019. In the meantime, we have been very fortunate to loan the beautiful Tracy Lord, Miss Adelaide and Sibella, and these are available to try on in our boutique now.
